Grüner See – Amazing and Beautiful Flooded Meadow

This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. The “Grüner See” (engl. Green Lake) is situated in upper styria, austria (see geotag). It is amazingly beautiful because of its deep green/blue colour and the surrounding alpine scenery. The lake itself dries up in autumn but fills up with melting water. The water itself of the lake is extremely pure, like glass. The colour is a result of light refraction. Here’s the poster’s description: “The night before there seemed to be heavy …

Methinks that’s what makes it so beautiful.

this is best video about this place!! also like the music!!
and here especially you can see the superclear water.. unlike in other videos.
p.s. – how does that happens to be flooded and how often? it seems strange to me that there are no mud, and everything is so clear.

i would be bored pretty soon; there’s not a single water animal there. it’s pretty obvious since the whole ecosystem is temporary, but still

  5. Pakiavelli says:

there is actually a fish at 2:06

oh i didnt spot that in the first place, was alt tabbed i think. anyway it reminds me of the drawing card of a diving resort in bulgaria: one single crab

I have no idea, I have tried to search for more information, but from what I did find, says that this happens after winter after all the snow melts, and it then dries up every august.

  21. Pakiavelli says:

yeah you’re right, at the start of the video you can see the water flooding in, but yeah if it does dry up every season then it must be connected with another body of water for fish to survive

  22. EssJay333 says:

If it dried up every august, the fish would never survive. That’s a pretty big trout you see in the video; if the lake really does dry up every august then when it does flood, it must become connected to another body of water.

amazing, how did this happen exactly?
